Meet Dr. Avra Frucht

“Hello, Dr. Frucht, can you come over? I need your help.”

Pets know that when they’re not feeling 100%, they call Dr. Avra Frucht (VMD).  She is highly respected in the pet community for her wisdom, clarity, composure and expert diagnosis.  Dr. Frucht attended the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and furthered her expertise at The Animal Medical Center.  In 2004, she established The Visiting Vet of New York, which has grown into a recognized veterinary house call practice that offers the finest care for dogs and cats in the comfort of their own home. Just this year, she created Paws In Peace for those seeking a more compassionate and personal euthanasia for their beloved pet.

Some words from some very special friends

A third-generation satisfied customer.

“Speaking as an Airedale, my good friend Dr. Avra is a wizard at what to look for and a magician at solving whatever is wrong with me. And she has such sure hands. I don’t want to get too emotional but I like her.”

Brothers, both five, both waggers.

“We’ve known Dr. Frucht since we were puppies, over five years ago. She’s super friendly, extremely professional, and so thorough. Very, very thorough. She always explains everything so precisely, all that’s wrong with us and how to make us 100% again. Having Dr. Frucht visit our home sure makes it less stressful for all of us. We appreciate that. So we greet her with wagging tails!”

-Scout & Seamus

A three-year old cat. The purr-iest of the family.

“Sometimes I don’t feel 100%. I try not to show it. I just don’t like people poking around. But Dr. Frucht figures it out really quick.  She’s just the best at doing that. And then giving me the right meds. Trust me, you can’t go wrong with Avra. I know. I’m her favorite.”

FAQ

Your Questions.  Our Answers.

Q. When should I consider using a house call vet over a traditional office veterinarian?

A.  Veterinary house calls are extremely helpful for both ordinary as well as extenuating situations. Routine wellness examinations and testing are commonly performed for pets of all ages including puppy/kitten exams, adult exams and senior exams. For pets that are not feeling well or exhibiting signs of illness, we can provide an array of diagnostics, supportive care and treatments so you pet can recover as quickly as possible. Please see our home page for a complete list of services.

Q. What if I think there is something seriously wrong with my pet?

A.  If your pet is experiencing an emergency, please go directly to the Animal Medical Center (212 838-8100) or Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners (212-767-0099). If you’re not sure whether an emergency exists, Dr. Frucht will arrange a phone conversation to determine what is best for your pet. If it’s an emergency, we will speak with the hospital of choice to coordinate a smooth transfer of information before your pet’s arrival.

Q. How much time should I allow for an appointment?

A.  Clients are given a two-hour window in which we expect to arrive at your home. While we make every attempt to arrive during that time frame, sometimes we are delayed by traffic or emergencies. We will apprise you as soon as possible in the event that we will exceed the time window. Appointments are open-ended but an average appointment time runs 30-40 minutes. Our commitment is to allow the time it takes to make sure your pet’s needs are fully satisfied.

Q. What’s required of me during an appointment?

A.  It is best if someone with knowledge of the pet’s medical history and issues is present during the examination. Any previous medical records are always helpful to review.  We can examine the pet anywhere in your home but we recommend a well-lit area where the pet is most comfortable. For animals that hide, it is best to restrict the pet’s access to a contained area where the exam can be performed.

Q. What services do you administer at a typical initial appointment?

A.  For animals over the age of five or those with a history of illness, we recommend base-line testing at all initial and annual appointments. During the exam itself, Dr. Frucht will tell you what she’s finding and then review everything at the conclusion of the exam.  If tests need to be run, she will personally call you with any results that require additional attention or treatment.

Q. Do you do euthanasia for non-clients?

A.  Yes. The Visiting Vet of New York recognizes that the decision to euthanize a family pet is very difficult.  The opportunity to ease this passing in a place that is both comfortable and familiar to your pet is consoling.  If you’ve reached this decision, we will do whatever is necessary to help ease the passing.

Q. Do you provide service out of Manhattan? ?

A.  Due to the high demand and travel time, we do not regularly provide services out of Manhattan.  Appointments can be made on a discretionary basis so we encourage potential clients to call and discuss their circumstances.

Q. Are weekend or evening appointments a possibility?

A.  Weekend and evening appointments are available.  Please call to make arrangements for such time slots.

Q. How do I arrange payment?

A.  Payment is due at the time of service. Preferred method of payments includes credit card or cash.
